Authors for Families is back!
Cute cat picture to grab your eye for the serious stuff below.
Regular visitors to this blog might remember this post from way back in July 2018 (which feels a lifetime ago politically). I’d written:
As a mother, it’s impossible not to be affected by the recent horrific news of separated immigrant families and children in cages—if someone took my daughter from me, I can’t imagine how I’d survive. But instead of giving into depression and sorrow, I decided I needed to do something to help. Luckily, over two dozen of my fellow debut novelists agreed—and Authors for Families (www.authorsforfamilies.org) was born.
Since then, we’ve held two rounds of Authors for Families in July and August, raising over $7,000 by auctioning off books, manuscript help, literary agent critiques, and many other wonderful goodies to help reunite immigrant children with their parents. Now, after a brief break to catch our breath, we’re back for October!
On my end, I’ve donated a half-hour tarot reading with me, and a first ten pages critique of your manuscript. Here’s the deal:
With over a dozen books published, Kris Waldherr has written everything from middle grade nonfiction to a historical literary novel. Let her put her extensive professional experience to work for you! Critique includes developmental edits, line edits, and relevant publishing advice.
If these offerings don’t tickle your fancy, there’s a ton more to choose from. Best of all, all proceeds go to these five charities working on behalf of immigrant families:
• CASA
• Women’s Refugee Commission
• Kids in Need of Defense
• The Florence Project
• RAICES.
