Unnatural Creatures first blurbs! Arcs! Romance!

Early advance reader copies of Unnatural Creatures have arrived! Don’t they look pretty? Add to Goodreads.

Happy 2022! Since my last update here, there’s been much going on with the publication of Unnatural Creatures. As you can see in the photograph, first advance reader copies have arrived. The final manuscript is now with a copyeditor, and the cover design is being finalized. In other news, there will even be a signed and numbered hardcover collector’s edition personally designed by me; newsletter subscribers will get first dibs this March. (You can subscribe here, if you haven’t done so already.) The collector’s edition will include the full text of Mary Shelley’s 1831 edition of Frankenstein, an illustrated frontispiece by me, and other special features.

I’m thrilled that Unnatural Creatures is starting to receive some lovely author endorsements:

“This is the feminist reimagining of Frankenstein you didn’t know you needed. Waldherr reanimates the story from the perspective of its three central female characters—Caroline Frankenstein, Elizabeth Lavenza, and Justine Moritz—creating a tribute to the strength and resilience of women that would make Mary Shelley proud.” —Clarissa Harwood, author of The Curse of Morton Abbey and Impossible Saints

“Elegantly written and inspired, Waldherr’s latest is a sensuous and empathetic look at the three women who knew Victor Frankenstein best. Fans of the original will find much to love in this fresh imagining of the classic tale. A veritable tour de force!” —Paulette Kennedy, author of Parting the Veil

“In Unnatural Creatures, Waldherr transforms the women of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein from victims into protagonists. Passing the torch of her suitably dark Gothic tale between the “Mother”, the “Betrothed” and the “Servant,” she sheds new light on one of literature’s most famous stories in an atmospheric novel, which contrasts the unnatural act of Frankenstein’s monster’s animation with the maternal act of creation.” —Finola Austin, author of Bronte’s Mistress

Finally, if your 2022 resolution involves penning a romance novel or incorporating romantic elements into your fiction, you’re in luck! I’m teaching an eight week generative romance writing workshop this winter via The Writers Circle—and it’s gonna be so much fun. The zoom class includes guest visits from bestselling authors Eliza Knight and Rachel McMillan, who double-duties in the publishing industry as a literary agent. Join us? Class begins Thursday, January 27th at 7pm ET. Learn more/register here.

A Secret Story for You

“To truly love another, you must follow the Lover’s Path wherever it may take you.”

The tale of the lover’s path begins as the story of two sisters, alike as doves in appearance, but different as water and wine in temperament and experience…
